Dr. Biswapriya Roy Choudhury, a prominent political leader and social thinker, hails from Malda district, West Bengal. Born on 6 December 1961, he completed his early education at Lalit Mohan Shyam Mohini High School, English Bazar. He pursued higher studies in Kolkata, earning a Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS). Apart from his professional career, Dr. Roy Choudhury has been actively involved in cultural and social initiatives in Malda, notably through organisations like Sabuj Sathi Sangha and Malda Shilpi Sangsad.
Dr. Biswapriya Roy Choudhury’s political journey reflects decades of dedication to organisational work and social service. He began his political career in 1977 through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the student wing of the Sangh Parivar. His grassroots commitment and leadership skills soon led him to key positions within the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), where he served as District President (1990–1995) and later as State Secretary (1996–2000) of BJYM West Bengal.
He further advanced through the organisational ranks of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), serving as District Secretary (2000–2003), General Secretary (2003–2006) of BJP Malda, and subsequently as State Secretary of BJP West Bengal from 2009. Recognising his commitment and leadership, he was appointed Vice President of BJP West Bengal, where he played a vital role in strengthening the party’s structure and outreach in North Bengal and beyond.
Currently, Dr. Biswapriya Roy Choudhury serves as the National Chairman of the Bharatiya Janata Majdoor Cell, a national organisation affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party that represents and works for the welfare of India’s vast labour force. Under his leadership, the Majdoor Cell has undertaken initiatives to organise workers in various sectors, raise awareness of labour rights, and foster coordination with government ministries such as the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Dr. Roy Choudhury’s vision for the Bharatiya Janata Majdoor Cell is rooted in the philosophy of Integral Humanism, emphasising dignity of labour, economic justice, and self-reliance. He has been instrumental in forming alliances with labour federations such as the All India Port Trust Workers Federation, All India FCI Workers Federation, All India Transport Workers Federation, and All India Food and Drinks Workers Federation to ensure unified labour representation nationwide.
